Gordon "Skip" M. Smith
A native of LaGrange, Gordon “Skip” M. Smith, Jr., is the President of Smith Design Group, Inc. an architectural and construction planning firm. Since 1994 his firm specializes in providing excellence in custom designs to facilitate the business and personal environments of his clients. A member of the American Institute of Architects and licensed to practice architecture in 11 state, Skip brings almost 20 years of professional experience to his projects.
The son of Gordon M. and Martha Smith, Skip received the Hatton Lovejoy Scholarship upon graduation from LaGrange High School and later earned his architectural degree from Auburn University where he received the following honors: Outstanding Freshmen Architectural Design Student; Architectural Honorary, and President of Chi Phi Fraternity, of which his father and brother Sykes Smith, and uncle George Smith are also members. Upon graduating from Auburn Skip spent three months of study in Europe.
Skip is married to Julie and they have two children—Olivia and Gordon “Trent” III. They attend First United Methodist Church where Skip is President of the Men’s Bible Class, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and the Memorial Committee. As an advisor of the Historic Preservation Society he assists in setting guidelines for LaGrange. An Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver recipient Skip still serves local scouting endeavors through the Endowment Committee for the Chattahoochee Council of the Boy Scouts of America. He also serves as board member of the Atlanta Youth Project, a non-profit organization servicing youth with needs in urban areas.
Other business interests include Symmetry Holdings, LLC and Gazebo Springs Development, LLC both local corporations.
